The library has been in service since 1997. It occupies a conveniently located and spacious area, functionally divided into lending room, reading room and internet annex which is an additional educational help.
The subject matter of the library’s collection is compatible with the school’s profile. The library principally collects publications in the fields of marketing, organization and management, law, banking, finance, accountancy, mathematics, insurance, tourism, economics, and political science; course books for foreign language learning; books about the culture and literature of a given language area; materials on pedagogical and methodological education; and science and popular science publications from other fields (social science, teaching aids of optional subjects, news bulletins, dictionaries, encyclopedias, brochures, bibliographies). Complementing the book collection are audio and video tapes for the learning of languages, DVDs and CDs. The library also makes the WSEH publications available, namely the quarterly “Ekonomia i Humanistyka,” as well as publications of other prestigious schools of higher education, as for example the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the Academy of Economics in Katowice and the Academy of Science in Wroclaw.
At present the library includes 17,201 volumes, 1039 jounals and 5200 electronic titles.
Searching for information in the WSEH library is based on four kinds of traditional card catalogues: thematic, subject, alphabetical, and title; as well as a computer catalogue of the OPAC type, access to EBSCO and QUESTIA electronic sources. The library also administers its own databases in the form of a catalogue of object entries. There are three ways of making use of the library’s collection: borrowing for use outside the library, using the materials in the reading room, and borrowing publications on the inter-library loan service.
