Student life is more than just studying. Attendance at an institution of higher learning gives students many opportunities to develop their individual interests and to check their progress both in competition and in cooperation with fellow students who often share similar passions. One of the university priorities is to work for the good of the students understood in the broadest sense. From its very inception, the university has succeeded in establishing relations with students based on partnership. The authorities of the university try to make the students’ role in shaping the institution as great as possible. One sign of these efforts is the students’ participation in many committees which have a crucial influence on the functioning and development of the university. Students also have
the opportunity to express their opinions both directly, at meetings with the authorities and the research and teaching staff of the university, and indirectly, in the form of evaluations conducted at the end of each semester. The opinions expressed are meticulously analyzed, and the “students’ voice” has a significant influence on the university organization and the teaching process.
The university not only works to ensure a high level of teaching but also provides excellent conditions for wide-ranging development of students’ interests. For this purpose the university has sponsored numerous guest lectureships and student clubs; for example their artistic passions find their palce at WSEH-ART club, where the students can present their works in public. They can also take part in extracurricular programme of research circles.
One of the statutory tasks of WSEH along with teaching is taking care of students’ health and their physical education. An attractive range of PE classes is designed for this purpose. The range includes various forms of sports activities (gym and fitness club with different classes such as aerobics, step, ricochet, team games) and a variety of extra classes (volleyball, basketball and handball). During the university classes breaks language and recreation camps are organized
The University of Economics and Humanities is the sole FEDE examination centre in Poland. FEDE (Fédération Européenne des Ecoles) is a prestigious organization concentrating schools and colleges from Western Europe. After completing studies at WSEH the graduates have the opportunity to receive two diplomas: the Polish degree diploma of “licencjat” and “magister” which are recognized in Poland, and the FEDE diploma honoured by employers in the European Union. Under the patronage of FEDE there are International Language Contests and The Contest of EU Knowledge organized every year.
The University of Economics and Humanities is a member of the Examination Centre of TELC (The European Language Certificates). This is a system of examinations created according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching and assessment by the European Council.
The TELC Certificate can be gained after passing the written and oral exams (covering different levels of fluency), which checks language skills with an emphasis on communication skills.
TELC language examinations are organized by WBT partners, TELC Examination Centers in Poland and many other European countries. The written part is checked by computer in the Central Examinations Office in Frankfurt am Main. However, the letters part of the exam is marked at two stages by two different examiners. The oral part is evaluated by the licensed examiners in the institutions that conduct the exam.
At present the university holds exams in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian.
After passing the TELC examination one receives the certificate with a mark that confirms language fluency. The certificates are printed and sent from the Central Examinations Office in Germany. The TELC Certificates are known and honoured throughout the European Union.
The institution takes an active part in the cultural life of the town and the region. One sign of this commitment is co-organization of the Festival of Science (Festiwal Nauki), the idea of which is to present the scientific and cultural advantages of the Beskidy Region to its inhabitants.
